Before you connect
- The store owner, or a staff account that may develop apps in the Shopify Dev Dashboard.
- Your store address, ending in .myshopify.com.
- An owner or admin account in Northdeck.
Connect Shopify
- In Northdeck, open Data → Sources and choose Shopify.
- In the Shopify Dev Dashboard, create an app named Northdeck.
- Give it the scopes read_orders, read_products and read_inventory. Add read_all_orders to read orders older than 60 days, and read_customers for customer names and countries (Shopify then asks for access to protected customer data).
- Install the app on your store.
- Copy the app's client ID and client secret. In Northdeck, fill in your store address, the client ID and the client secret.
- Click Connect Shopify.
Someone else holds the access? In Data → Sources, click Send an invite link: they fill in the key without a Northdeck account. The link is valid for 7 days and works once.
Keeping it up to date
Every hour Northdeck reads what changed in Shopify, and every night everything. A store with more than 2,000 orders is read as a Shopify export the first time; the next sync imports it, usually within the hour.
Troubleshoot
The message in Northdeck says what went wrong. These are the most common ones.
The Shopify store address is missing or not valid.
Fill in the address that ends in .myshopify.com, not your own domain name.
Shopify did not accept the client ID and secret, or the app is not installed on this store.
Check both values in the Dev Dashboard and install the app on this store.
Store … was not found.
The store address is wrong. Copy it from the Shopify admin.
The Shopify app is missing these permissions.
Add the listed scopes in the Dev Dashboard, release a new version and approve it in the store.
Good to know
- Without read_all_orders only the last 60 days of orders are read. Orders imported earlier stay.
- No e-mail addresses, phone numbers or street addresses are copied.
- Orders from bol.com, Amazon or a file stay next to the Shopify orders.
